How much will the size of the blockchain grow with this update? This is one of the biggest issues with Monero's architecture.

No, it's not.

It will make churning irrelevant.

It will enable L2 networks like LN.

As Monero mining is not depended on fees that can eat into the security budget, L2 will have potential net positive effects despite bigger tx size.
