Yes very good tea with the leaves. I believe its the only plant native to north america that contains naturally occuring caffeine.

Indeed it is. It's one of the more hardy caffeine containing pants too. What sort of cold temperatures have they survived near you?
I have always wanted to try and growing it here but never see it for sale.
The coldest i know of was 8 degress F
Should be fine for here then. Just need to see if I can find one for sale. Thanks
They really are tough, drought tolerant shrubs. Around here they can get to about 15-20 ft tall. They grow wild on our property, I just wanted some near the house.
It's usual they are hard to find here then. Couldn't find any for years and have possibly found a single source only now. Apparently they don't like being waterlogged so perhaps people fail to ammend for this and they die with all the rain we get here in the U.K? 🤷 Either way I might need to corner the Yaupon holly market 😁
I love them! Some of the birds are attracted to the berries too. Here, I can buy a newer variety, called Pride of Houston, that is the yaupon holly, but it makes many more berries. They are truly beautiful in the fall.
If you have any seeds off the new variety let me know be happy to buy some 🙂
I can mail you some of the berries if you like, and if you are in the US. Havent ever tried to start yaupon from berries, but you could try. So just let me know. No charge btw.
