Never give up your bitcoin, but use a multisig where it is at least a 2/3 multisig where you hold a key, the lending institution holds a key and a neutral 3rd party holds the 3rd key. Ensure that the contract is beneficial to you.

do not take over a 30% loan to value against your bitcoin.
