You can still set-up a legacy address/wallet with Electrum, although I believe you have to make an effort.
Komodo Wallet uses legacy addresses by default and also has cool features, like a "Camouflage PIN" that, when entered, shows only a fraction of your balance, so if under duress, you could access and send a small fraction of your actual holdings.... Anyway, worth looking into, as it's also a DEX.
Nunchuk supports legacy wallets too. Seriously considering asking if I can roll my assisted wallet over to one...
I want to say, well so many wallets default to native Segwit and lightning needs it to exist, so how could it possibly get rugged? But what can go wrong will go wrong in a long term play like Bitcoin.
It's another rabbithole, yet again.
Modern wallets use SegWit for the cheaper fees and it's "lighter weight" not having the signatures. How does it rug? Miners drop the soft fork due to an unforseen security issue or who knows???
In another discussion on Nostr, someone told me they feel safest in the latest tech, so they were looking to move their holdings to Taproot, lol.
Everyone has a different thought process.
My thoughts are, safety is THE base layer or the closer the better. I certainly wouldn't be holding my life savings in ⚡, lol.
