Definitely. Consider the average muscle car during this time period only did around 140mph. The Shelby Daytona Coupe (CSX2287) did around 187mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats. So I would say GM hit the mark with the Cheetah. The Cheetah race cars only competed in a few races so we never got to see their full potential.

What killed the car and company were changes to the homologation rules causing Chevy to pull out of the program and a fire at the production facility.

All in all we don't know how many Cheetahs road cars were actually built. Some say 13, some say 16.

Either way it's a car that time forgot and one of the biggest "what-ifs" of motorsports had production continued and marketing of the road cars got off the ground.

True. That said their are a few replica manufacturers out there and "continuation cars" that are officially licensed by the Thomas family.
