Well, there isn't such thing as bitcoin developers. There are node software developers, for instance. However you can use what software you want, there are some options, not many but some, and configure it the way you wish. Furthermore, there are few trusted people with merge privileges in reputable softwares like Bitcoin Core, if they mess up, it would be noticed due to open source nature of it and bitcoin consensus would take of situation. Nothing to worry. Trustless.
