It's there a good formal way of doing such a key rotation? Why would I want to do this in the first place?

Nostr doesn’t support key rotation, at least currently. So, no. The “formal” way would be the same way you tell people you got a new phone number.

I'm going to have to deal with that at some point. When I setup Nostr, I set up a npub/nsec that I recorded. Then I set up my alby account to login to Nostr. I seem to have accidentally set up a second account. That one is the one that has all of my activity, but I don't have the nsec for that account. When I upgrade my laptop, I'm going to have to figure something out.
