If you smiled at me in real life, and then I gave you a blank look but kept walking..

(That is healthy for you? Especially if it happens often? Wouldn’t you just stop being nice?)

A smile or 🤙 is just what it is. Wanting a stranger to interact with verbal or written dialog every time a stranger nods or whatever is a reach.

Interesting. I thought you were taking that in a different direction.

I feel like I put my heart and mind into thoughtful note/post and then get some token “like” and nothing else. To me that’s like getting a blank face to my warm and genuine smile.

On the internet you can get tens of thousands of “smiles and nods” whereas in real life I’m only going to see a few dozen faces a day. I need some value-for-value screening mechanism or I’ll be drained

If you typed me a message, especially if it was more than a word or two.

Then I would respond in writing to your message.

Look at the average Nostr user’s notes and it seems to me likes far outweigh thoughtful replies or zaps.

Because often its not a person to person engagement. Like we are doing now.

If I posted a picture of my dog. I would likely get some likes and possibly a comment or two of someone who wants to talk about the picture.

Just as in real life if I was walking my dog at the park. Some smiles. Maybe a verbal engagement or two.
