i think the "you could win a whole block" marketing is quite ... dishonest... though

there will be mere dozens of solo mined blocks every year, at best

i kinda appreciate the "GFY" vibe of it versus the pools though... they ain't getting this hashpower, of the small swarm of solo miners, and i think maybe that is a good thing

also, i should also mention that solo mining just to get the waste heat, this makes TOTAL sense if the effective cost of your heating is pretty close to just using a resistive element, because it has a small chance of being a big payoff, and if we had a lot more of that... it would become a new force in the distribution of block solutions

A single solo mined block proves that it's possible, and for most of us we understand it's effectively like winning the lottery; very unlikely but technically possible.

indeed, but it's inconceivably rare... literally at least billion to one over a 10 year period

most people don't really have a way to understand poisson point processes, they hear odds and they think percentages, but that is only if you smooth it out eg use a pool
