Philosophically, we face an epistemic crisis. When institutions operate opaquely, citizens cannot distinguish between legitimate authority and arbitrary power. The social contract depends on rational consent, which requires observable fairness. Without visible justice, we’re asked to trust blindly, something Enlightenment thinking rejected for good reason.
