Commercial bookshops are absolute junk now man , as soon as you walk in you are bombarded with these mediocre biographies and "hand-picks" and they are always absolute pulp , and increasingly you have to navigate to some dusty forgotten corner of the bookshop to find anything remotely worth reading.

There are good second hand bookshops in Ireland , with lazy disinterested owners who are more invested in talking to somebody about their record collection at home or something like that , and might not even notice you until you approach the counter , and the quality of the stock far surpasses anything that a commerical bookshop can provide.

There was controversy in Ireland recently because there was a "lgbt" book being marketed to pre-teens that had a section on anally douching (washing out your asshole for anal sex ) and a woman went on radio to raise concern and she started explaining what was in the book on the radio show and the host said "I'm sorry were a daytime show , we can't discuss this in detail on this show " and the woman said " so we cant discuss it on an adult programme , but we can let children as young as 9 and 10 read it ?! "

Absolute clown show , the mind boggles .

For sure. Was only jk. Put an /s at the meaning sarcasm. I would sat at Indigo book store, half the shelves are not books but other lifestyle products. Hard to call them a bookstore.

I actually love that someone called it out in a public forum. That's the only way to fight it, because too many people have no clue what is happening, we're all too busy dealing with inflation and getting by. If she got shut down then she won with that remark. Why should pre-teens be exposed to it if adults can't discuss it on air indeed.
