Phoenix is good for a basic Lightning wallet but it doesn’t give you a permanent address for receiving zaps.

Alby is in the process of going self-custodial so they’re not adding many new users at the moment.

Depending on where you live some options for you are:

Custodial:

Strike

Primal

LN.tips bot on Telegram

Stacker.news

Self custodial:

Zeus with a Zeus Pay address

Mutiny (the latest TestFlight)

Is it safe to put my private key into Mutiny to set up a wallet that is automatically connected to my nostr account?

(I lean pretty hard to the full nym, self custodial, kyc-free approach whenever possible)

It’s a little bit of work because you have to set up Mutiny + and then join a Federation but once you’ve gone through those steps you should be all set.

How do I identify a high quality federation? Does mutiny have an official/starter kit kind of thing?

Perhaps a question for you, tony?

Yes, the key is only stored locally on your phone.

OK thanks - I've listened to a handful of interviews with Tony and Ben on CD & bitcoin.review and they don't seem like type to rug social media account handles lol

And mutiny the wallet is completely open source right? Not that I could review the code but presumably a handful of people here have

Yes, nostr:npub1t0nyg64g5vwprva52wlcmt7fkdr07v5dr7s35raq9g0xgc0k4xcsedjgqv and nostr:npub1u8lnhlw5usp3t9vmpz60ejpyt649z33hu82wc2hpv6m5xdqmuxhs46turz are here if you run into any trouble.

Sometimes Tony gets salty with me but you just wanna give the guy a hug when you see him. 🫂

Lol sounds great

I'm looking at the "freedom one" federation which looks recommended by tony, Odell, Ben, and a couple of other familiar faces so let's go with that...

It also looks like a lightning address is only available to paid users, which I'm definitely gonna do but I would imagine is friction for new nostr users... Or is there another way to send and receive zaps using Mutiny without the paid test flight configuration?

Not yet, we'll have a free one eventually

Gotcha. I just tried to send about 1M SATs from Phoenix tonmynnew mutiny acct via lightning but it hasn't reflected any change. Is it waiting for a channel confirmation? If so, it would be good to indicate that to the user waiting for his funds to arrive ;)

FYI – I’m trying to pay the Mutiny+ subscription fee but it can’t find a route.

Mutiny node connectivity issues? I feel like it's usually that when multiple users can't connect to a LSP sort of thing... Right?

OK, I finally got it working after a bunch of tries and waiting an hour.

Can you shill me a federation?

I tried joining Freedom One, but have yet to receive the channel opening payment so I'm feeling less trusty, more verify-y at the moment

Where’s the invite code for this? I’m not seeing anything under Discover Federations.

There was a button/CTA to join a recommended fed, this was second in the list. What if you go to the settings sidebar and click federations?

Try this invite code

There we go. Took me a few tries, so there’s definitely some friction to work out in the process, but I finally have a Mutiny+ address!

And once again zapping a mutiny user from alby seems to always be temperamental.

Hopefully it went through. Always shows me the orange timer logo here in Damus.

Yes, it worked! Zaps from nostr:npub1qdsjkr46urkg6vqrr3zqhgy8l7dazc5k9hlm5jmwqg0vft7hzgtqamgfw3 and nostr:npub10vu5jqhw4kurwzf37xgr6qzkj4z7ssgnld4qjc6xv3mrhc3jqzwqnm4qs4 came in, plus a test from my node.

Once the onboarding flow gets easier, this is going to be one of the best ways to get zapped. Very fucking cool, guys.

🙌⚡️

Excellent 👍🏼

Did it work?

Not yet, hopefully this becomes a free feature at some point. I agree, it isn’t very newbie-friendly at this stage.
