Try squeezing a fresh lime over it. Not only will that help with the smell, it’ll improve the taste as they are complementary. The smell is caused by an enzyme called papain. haha no, it's normally sweet and nice. Maybe diff country grows/imports diff types. Make sure its ripe though, and don't eat the seeds - scoop them out. In comparison on the smell, papaya is harmless compared to durians =)
