For me, it's the physicist Valery Chalidze, Soviet dissident stripped of his nationality in 1972 following a trip to the USA. A virulent defender of human rights and friend of Sakharov (the Nobel Peace Prize-winning physicist), he was a publisher of books, leaflets and magazines, first in the USSR and then in the USA. Hunted for years by the Soviet secret services before becoming stateless, he finally obtained American citizenship.

He was a jack-of-all-trades, curious in many fields, according to the archives of his website (written from 1995 to 2005).
