Books are very good. Some books are better than others. In the early 90s as a struggling carpenter I bought a textbook on carpentry and it significantly improved my skill. I was surrounded by uncles, cousins and my Father who were skilled but I wasn't taking the finer points of the trade. I was lost in thinking about other things. When I intellectually embraced the trade I was teachable and my family took notice!
