For days now, Bitcoin's transaction fees have been so high that it has simply become unusable.

Current status: $6 per transaction

this is not unusable, this is working as intended. Get a custodial lightning wallet if you want to make small transactions, onchain bitcoin is intended for huge transactions like inter corporation settlement. Or payment for iranian drones etc...
