Buying a gun is paranoid he says. While running around guarded by 24/7 security.

Reasonably secure devices? No that's only for paranoid people aswell.

i see it this way

malice is part of why you do it, and expecting malice is seen as paranoid, even though everyone has bumped into people who randomly start to have malice... they are called "psychopaths" and there is some around in almost every place, it's a random chance to bump into them but when you do, trouble happens

second thing that accidents happen, and people who were previously ok, suddenly become delusional and start doing crazy stuff, this is not paranoid, this is just like putting big knobbly thick radius tires on your 4x4 because it would be retarded to think you could drive a gravel track with low profile 18" wheels lol

it is literally exactly byzantine fault tolerance that is at play in this... you buy a gun and train to shoot it and carry it around because of a byzantine fault risk

you buy bitcoin because of a very probable byzantine fault of a corrupt government and banking establishment

literally saving in fiat dollars in a bank is two levels of risk, versus bitcoin's single layer of risk for this one case

if a zombie virus breaks out, or someone suddenly has some bizarre psychotic episode out of the blue after a relatively clean history, you may need to shoot a human being to stop them causing harm to other people and maybe even just pointing at them and being ready to squeeze the trigger can save lives and property

it is not paranoia, when you widen your definition of risk to byzantine risk

risks of both malice and error exist, and must bbe dealt with, and not having a plan is a guarantee of some day a total failure
