The problem arises out of the npub-imbalance. It's prohibitively difficult to reach a critical mass with a new subculture because you spend all day muting and arguing with the people who are already here, rather than having any sort of meaningful, constructive interaction.

It has taken me months and a lot of effort, research, and money to get my npub to a point where I can come here and have an enjoyable conversation.

That is too high of a barrier to entry.

The people who didn't have to do that effort, to reach the same plateau, are quick to inform me that it's not too high.

Hmmm...I get it...and yet that's one of the first things I did when I got on Nostr was to create my mute list (and oh my it's pretty big at this point). And make no mistake, I'm still at it...months later.

But (just like choosing friends IRL) there's no "easy button" I'm afraid...

I'd rather have a difficult and time consuming effort to create my ban list than have some type of automatic filtering...or some other mechanism to limit free speech on this platform. That trade off is well worth the effort IMHO. 😃
