I emigrated to Canada in 2006

my parents still live in the same house we lived in then; it must have doubled in price since then

note, I say “price”, not “value”

I asked ChatGPT to take my new salary I’ll be receiving when I start my new job, and calculate what purchasing power it had in 2006

it gave me the exact nominal dollar value that I currently make

- my new salary is substantially better than my current one

but it ain’t double

Newfoundland for the “win” on this one:

Ontario here

lucky me 😬

Sounds about right! Newfoundland actually sees a ton of new Canadians each year, but a lot move on to the bigger Canadian hubs. We don’t have the services people want, but we do have a better standard of living IMO. If you haven’t been, it’s worth it. 💜I’ve had my fill of the mainland. 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting parts of Nova Scotia and PEI, but will have the make the effort to get out to NL; I’ve only heard wonderful things!
