Ok, the tests are in better shape now, but still lots to do. Decided not to mess with the blockstore yet. Going to have to do multiple passes over everything again.
Stuff is looking much better already, thinking about constness in the API again now.

Constness besides, I think things are ready now. Going to update the rust crate, then it's on to writing the commit and pull request messages.
