Man didn't die when he ate the fruit, he died because YHWH expelled him from the garden.

YHWH said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever"

- Gen 3:22.

Notice also that YHWH acknowledged that the serpent was right, it didn't lie.. "when you eat of it your eyes will be opened... knowing good and evil" Gen 3:5.

Jesus is returning us back to the Garden again so that we can part take from that tree of life (Rev 22)
