His interventioary foreign policy is still not something he has justified on libertarian lines because it is un-libertarian and deserves critique.

Imo, the drama between the two on a personal level can be completely ignored in favour of putting concrete policy actions under the microscope to understand how he is dealing with Argentina's crisis. That's more useful.

Bringing about libertarian reforms in an economy ravaged by socialist policies is not easy. It can't be undone suddenly at the whims of an ideologue, billionaire or a scholar, however right that person maybe.
Bastiat's approach of accounting for what is seen and unseen goes as much for liberalisation as it does for restriction or intervention. It's easy for a country to vote its way into socialism, but getting out of it is incredibly hard.
