Thank you for demonstrating the value of peer review as opposed to “authority” review. My original post was a gross over simplification that could not stand without further explanation.
Initially a person taking a position honestly or dishonestly believes/claims they are “correct.” My statement did not address this tendency.
A REASONABLE amount of effort by the individual to establish “correct” must proceed running headlong into locating supporting data.
In this phase you are considering and open to supporting AND contradictory information to validate or debunk your hypothesis.
This should only be as involved as your position warrants to go “public” with your position. A simple process such as following Norman Edmunds SM-14 (scientific method) works beautifully and had I followed my own advice, I could have avoided posting “Swiss cheese.”
