Absolutely. Free as in freedom.
Discussion
Well, if I have information that I spent time and effort creating or accumulating, then I wouldn’t be in position to just share it for free. What I consider information is anything that has structure. Image, movie, book, lesson, tutorial, etc.
Public information about facts, sure all should be free in both senses.
Also, if I sell information, I should be able to sell it to anyone who pays, not restricted by some rules and regulations (liberty)
Hope I made sense! 🐶🐾🫡
You made sense, and i respect your position. I’m also still arguing about this in my head but my argument for movies/games/music would not be much different though. You can sell your information definitely, but ideally it should not be restricted or gated, you can create a better experience around it for sure but people who want to and are unable to pay for it should still be able to use it and build upon it.
My view is extreme and may seem unfair, but information asymmetry is unfair.
Also it is not equal for all forms of information, movies, music, media are not important, sure go ahead make money. Research papers, information used for exploitation, “truth” is more important.
It stems from the entire Aaron Swartz struggle and the Freedom Of Information concept.
Thanks for engaging though.
