Btw, did you try out Isolated NWC Connection already? It effectively might create subaccounts, so you could share your node liquidity and fees with your friends, family, community!

Would that be self-custodial to them as well or am I in custody of my friend's/family funds?

Only you would have access to the private key and you could turn them off at any moment, so probably you can call it you are the custodian of their funds
