Playing around and looking to install Linux on a Microsoft Surface Go (the first generation) I have lying around.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Dont get caught up in the security fuss. Start with the easiest (Ubuntu) and when you're comfortable with linux then move on to something else.

Cool. Ubuntu was the path.

I don’t think there are a lot of options for the surface go so I am keeping it very simple.

Linux green horn over here. 😂

Always fun to do. Will hopefully feel like a new PC too. I repurposed an old ThinkPad into a bitcoin node (Start9) - faultless, powerful and just keeps chugging away.

I love my Start9 raspi diy.

Nerdy projects my wife will never understand. 😂

“What the hell are you doing over there… nevermind, don’t answer… I don’t want to know.”

🤣🤣🤣 I can relate

🤣🤣🤣🤣

You'll be looking for a system76 linux laptop in no time brother. I have popos on my newest thinkpad 100% no regrets.

Fuck microsuck

Pop_OS! or Fedora

That is a really cool hardware to run linux, a friend has it.

I would try Arch or Alpine.

Went with Ubuntu 24.04. Surface Go is running smooth so far. Way faster than the Windows 10 that was bogging down the old device.

I’ve never used Linux so this is a fun trial.
