$7 fees are high, but also buys you are lot of subsidized security

The block chain would be more expensive to spam if the size slowly increased. Which would bleed the spammers dry.

There are other things we could do.

I don't think fees are high because of "spammers". There isn't that much inscription activity right now. More likely fees are high from panic buying.

I’d like to believe that but I’m seeing a lot of inscriptions on mempool.space blocks when I just scroll across next blocks waiting txs

Sure, they exist. But there's a lot more txs than just them. Sudden price rises have always lead to high block space demand.
