Venerable Martyr Gherasim of Tismana, a beacon of faith in 18th-century Wallachia, fearlessly defended his monastery against plundering Turks. When they demanded the church's treasures, he refused, choosing martyrdom over sacrilege. Enraged, the invaders beheaded him at the altar. His sacrifice sanctified the monastery grounds, and he is remembered for his unwavering courage and devotion to God.
