Ultraman, as the name implies, is a general term for giants with ultra human strength, but it can be subdivided into smaller categories.

Some are from planets in space, some are from Earth.

What they all have in common is the process by which the main character, a human (or sometimes an alien), transforms into Ultraman.

However, the method of transformation varies from series to series.

1. Earthlings and Ultraman coexist by fusing together.

2. Ultraman transforms into an Earthling and returns to his original form during battle.

3. Acquire the ability to transform into Ultraman.

There are minor differences, but it is usually one of these three.

"Ultraman Blazar," currently on the air, falls under 1.

In the case of 1, whether humans and Ultraman share consciousness during transformation varies from series to series, but Ultraman Blazar probably does not share consciousness.
