If I know correctly Bluetooth, WiFi and 5G is not good for that because of their short distance limitations. That's why all those dedicated hardware are not using these network. I want to know that if I currently buy a mesh network node from the market is it worth for using it or not?! That's why I asked for its theoretical limits.

5G should theoretically be good for high density, close range scenario.

There are some interesting 60Ghz mmWave mesh technologies such as Terragraph that can provide high speed connectivity between nodes however these need fixed roof mounted antennas and are really designed to be operated by service providers rather than as separate individual nodes. I also know of some community fixed wireless projects where a group of people have gotten together and built networks with point to point wireless links to share files etc privately.

Yeah I know a project like that in Montreal. But we need something easier. A cheap device or software/app and a GUI a child could use and setups.

Yeah there are things like the Google WiFi and Eero devices that use meshing for extending WiFi within a home but I think both are limited to 3 devices in the mesh so not suitable for this application. From a quick search I found LibreMesh which appears to be a mesh firmware based on OpenWrt so should run on a variety of cheap consumer grade routers. That might be something to look into. https://libremesh.org

The project here in Montreal did their own openWrt firmware, but it’s deprecated. I think it’s the way to go.

Maybe we should start a community founded project for Nostr Mesh Nodes on the same principles as today's Rpi based Bitcoin nodes work. Maybe it will help to decentralize Nostr relay nodes even more.

I think these are bad for anonymity because they can be easily located. I like more these mobile mesh nodes which can be fit into a pocket. But yeah, those are quite slow if I remember correctly.

There’s some app, but most don’t work on iOS. And not very reliable.
