Bitcoin Deposits: A Layer 3 Protocol for Trust-Minimized Lightning Wallets
For years, discussions have centered on layer 2 solutions, but the focus is now shifting to layer 3.
This proposal introduces a system built on top of the Lightning Network, termed Deposit Wallets.
The core concept involves a vault managed by a Lightning Service Provider on behalf of the user. While this system requires a degree of trust, it is not absolute, as users must still sign transactions. However, they are not required to be online to receive payments.
The primary advantage is that this system leaves no on-chain footprint, with all payments settled within the Lightning Network.
