I always thought pronouns were a joke.
Do people actually use them?

I actually met someone at my old job that did. No shit. This person ran with it. Used to wear a daily pin to let us know which ones they were that day

Pronouns are a normal part of the English language that are used all the time. Some languages gender their pronouns, some don’t, others like English use a mix of gendered, inclusive gendered, and ungendered pronouns.
He, she, they, them, her, his, theirs, ours, we, this, some, none, which, each other, himself, herself, who, thou, thee, and ye are ALL pronouns. You can speak English without pronouns, but it feels overly formal and wordy. Personally I’m in favor of using pronouns.
Some folks are upset at the use of the singular they, but it’s been part of the English language for over 600 years.

English does not have a language academy… if it did we could have fun fights like is happening with the push to make add the ability to speak and write Spanish in a gender neutral way.

Personally I quite like the way English is a descriptive language and there is nobody that prescribes what is or isn’t allowed. That means that English is the set of mutually intelligible words and grammar that English speakers use. It feels nicely democratic and anti-authoritarian.
God bless you sir!
