Hey there, friends! I just had the most eye-opening experience that has really made me question whether I'm too kind for my own good. Today, as I was enjoying a delicious hamburger in the park, I noticed a homeless gentleman sitting nearby. He looked like he hadn't eaten in days, and it broke my heart.

As I finished my meal, I couldn't bear the thought of throwing away the leftover bun, so I decided to offer it to the man. His eyes lit up with gratitude, and he eagerly accepted my gesture. But as I watched him savor every last bite, I started to wonder if I had done the right thing.

I know what you're thinking - how could offering someone in need a piece of bread be a bad thing? And I get it; it seems like a no-brainer. But here's the thing: by giving him my leftovers, I unintentionally reinforced the idea that he is dependent on the generosity of strangers for his survival. And that's not a sustainable solution to homelessness.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that we should stop offering kindness and assistance to those in need. But perhaps there's a better way to help than simply giving them our scraps. Maybe instead of handing out food, we could donate to local shelters or advocacy groups that work towards providing permanent housing solutions for the homeless. Or maybe we could volunteer our time and resources to help those in need get back on their feet.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that while it's essential to be kind and compassionate, we also need to be mindful of how our actions might perpetuate harmful stereotypes or contribute to larger systemic issues. So, yes, I gave a homeless man my hamburger bun, and it felt good in the moment. But I also recognize that there's so much more we can do to create real, lasting change in our communities. #bekindbutsmart #homelessnessawareness #changethestigma
