Depends on environment. £100 spent last week on a pair of Sony 720N over the ear headphones have done wonders for my gym sessions and working from home with kids around. Use the tools.
I've tried all kinds of audiophile in/over the ear stuff.
Music is not in your head unless you are Beethoven or missing lithium.
Music is made by instruments on imperfect environments.
Try a day joint homeschooling my three kids whilst trying to work in those hours whilst handling the admin of running a house and you'll most likely be searching for the nearest pair of headphones you can find, even for 30mins of the day to retain some semblance of inner peace. If not then you are a better man than me and I my hat to you 🤪

Long fun history, legend says they were used in JFKs campaign tour. They work on any from and can be stacked as sound wall. Sound absolutely fantastic.
They're impressive! And interesting history, might suit my set up as I don't currently have a bass unit, just read they have a good crossover range. I'm going to see what's about 2nd hand like you said, thanks!
