Put another way, a lion born in a cage to parents that were born in a cage will no nothing of the serengeti. Even if the door to the cage is left open, few will venture through it to see what is on the other side.

And those that do, will no doubt experience The Allegory of the Cave when they return and try to explain what they have seen to their caged parents or siblings.
