Is it common to require 1 million + SATs to open a lightning channel? That seems to be the minimum I see. That is not accessible for most people.
I don't know anything about e cash or any other alternatives, but perhaps they address this?
It would be great if nodes could be created without needing so many SATs.

Common for public routing nodes but you can do less with LSPs like Phoenix or nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5
Ecash does address this but it is also much more trust based. Lot of trade ofs for micro transactions.
I'd personally reccomend most users get a minimum 1M sat channel with a trustworthy and reliable peer if you want to use self sovereign lightning.
Otherwise, ECash or even a custodial service works better for small payments. Just made sure you can withdraw on-chain if needed.

2m of incoming liquidity. You can also add outgoing liquidity
ecash is different. you send them SATs and they deal with all the LN stuff on the backend.
its custodial though so always the possibility they could rug you.
but better for people who just want to fuck around with small amounts on LN.
