that's also why the new one is rooted (interestingly, i've found in recent years the phones that are easiest to root are rugged phones). the irony is that my current one every time it boots puts up a warning that the device has been rooted and "can't be trusted" when actually, i trust the device more because it's rooted, because i don't trust the manufacturers back-room deals, at all, not one bit.

i needed to root the new one so i could install a charge controller to limit it to 75% max charge so it doesn't go the same way as the previous two did. the phone is a pig ass piece of shit tho. running android 13 on 3gb of memory is abysmal. they should have shipped it with android 10 or something because that runs smooth on hardware like this. android versions keep coming out almost one every year and chew more and more resources for no visible benefit. i miss my old android 4 phone, motorola defy mini. it was great. i ran linux on it. the only thing it couldn't do was run cyanogenmod
