Lol! Quit talkin' nonsense!

Too complicated, i will just HFSP

You'd think it were that easy. But I think it's more a compulsive thing, tied with live laugh love yolo etc etc. I find a lot of the people around me spend like mad, I literally find it mad. (Not that I'm saying living thriftily is for everyone or is necessary, but the other end of the spectrum is pretty wild)

Yeah, I know. I see a lot of it in my friends and family, unfortunately.

They blow through any money they receive, whether they are rich or poor. That's why increasing their income doesn't increase their net-wealth.

Yep, and then you hear “the more you earn, the more you spend” 🙄 Unfortunately, this often leads to debt/credit and that’s what’s the fiat system is built upon.

We've often made really uncomfortable choices, to stay out of debt. It's... hard. And everyone thinks you're nuts.

It's arguably easier to be broke when you're good at entertaining yourself and finding pleasure in simple things like going for a stroll, knitting, or reading.

And when you're sort of immune to peer pressure.

Yes definitely, 💯

People think I'm nuts to keep my old phone and my old netbook, but I am always loathe to purchase electronics. Usually wait until they are completely dead. 😂

I am, after all, married to an electrician.

I think part of the mentality comes from not wanting to 'deny yourself' anything, ever. Why would you deny yourself the Uber, going out for meals and pubs several times a week, deny yourself another gig etc etc gotta have Experiences™️ .And I partly get that in small doses, but the doses are huge and constant in a lot of the people around me living constantly within overdrafts. The concept of saving anything is just as incomprehensible to them as I find the opposite incomprehensible.

Sensory seeking.

It's a lot easier to save when you find most things utter shite. Functional depression lol

True

😂

I just wanted to come back to this lol soz.

Cos I do have sympathy with what I see around me and in my friends. I also think it is partly tied with a sort of despair, and I feel like I havent done that justice lol.

It's quite understandable to have a position of Why Bother when it comes to saving, when something as major and life altering as home ownership is completely unachievable, even with denying yourself minor and major luxuries. And this sort of mindset snowballs into just never saving, being constantly in overdrafts and whatnot.

Yes, typical mindset in an inflationary environment. Eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow our money dies.

Exactly lol

Based 😂

Additionally it‘s consuming. You‘re not even self-actualizing/effective/creating. To save up your funds for a targeted spend is something completely different than maxing-out on consumption.

Although it is increasingly tapping into the 'creative' higher tier of consumer, eg see synthfluencers

Yeah, I like to spend money as much as the next person, I'm just a fan of budgeting, so there's always something leftover that can be put aside.

I guess that's too boring and old school, but whatever.

HERE IS A WAY TO HAVE MONEY:

HAVE SATS. DON'T ZAP ALL OF THEM.

LOL

It’s the have money that is often the hardest step.

Yes, but most people do have money or could figure out a way to acquire some.
