For now, what the ban means is that payment processors can’t integrate crypto
It’s not about all financial institutions as there are more than 20 exchanges that will continue to operate normally.
But those companies offering point of sales or payment systems using credit cards or banking related payment methods can’t mix up with stablecoins or crypto in general
Was this announcement in line with the IMF’s demands?
Some people say that was the motivation.. some others say that it was due to banks lobby as the central bank has previously limited banks from having crypto so they didn’t want the “crypto exchanges” to have an advantage. Others think that it’s a way to block Mercado Pago from doing that integration adding crypto as they are more than 90% of the digital fiat wallets today (Mercado libre CEO is opositor to this government)
