"At its peak during the Cold War, the United States enriched over 90% of the world’s uranium. Today, we produce less than 0.1% of global enrichment, with no domestic capability to enrich uranium beyond 5% (LEU). That means we are actually incapable of fueling our most cutting-edge reactors without the help of foreign governments — most problematically including Russia. And Russia is where folks typically credit the shift away from American enrichment."
