40% is just income tax, let's not forget that some of us pay "goods and service" taxes just to buy and sell food. Then taxes when you buy a property, more taxes when you sell it, building permit fees (read one time tax) to make additions to your own property. Taxes on your estate when you die and taxes on your super... Most of us are paying more than 40%...
