I'd also dual boot between 'my' system and a locked down version just so it looked normal to everyone else. I got in a little trouble at first (played dumb), but then I saved up for a USB drive so I could backup the original setup in case I unrecoverably fucked up. Of course, the backup still took overnight at usb 1.0 speeds...
