Climate change. An issue for decades, yet it seems like it's only been talked about for the past years. It hurts to know that species extinction will be inevitable and may not recover for possibly 100.000 or 1bil years. It hurts a lot that I am releasing so much CO2 into the air daily because of my job...a reason why I would look for something new. It feels so good that I no longer eat meat.

It's becoming more and more apparent that we need to adapt our lives to produce 0% emissions. The lifestyles of many must be completely reversed by 180 degrees. It's too late to keep things as normal as they are today, but it's not too late to prevent even worse consequences. Act now!

Feel free to discuss about this topic, kindly.💚

Hi Franny, it’s a tricky subject. My feelings on this are that I’m particularly concerned about the pollutants going into the environment that are not being talked about so much such as aluminium particulates, plastics, GMOs, EMFs, glyphosate, pharmaceutical run off etc.

I’m less concerned about CO2 because it’s a natural gas and essential for all life, forests and plants through photosynthesis etc.

I’m into local growing cooperatives and permaculture and live in a surf town so deeply care about oceanic pollution. So that’s my perspective.

What do other people think? 🙏

Thank you Chris! I agree with you. Co2 is sure a essential part of our planet, but most of it is/was stored in the ground, and we push out more than earth can process/store again.

Normally, earth regenerates but it takes so much time, so much, we can’t even image in our short lifespan.

There are so much chemicals and plastic, nobody talks about, that’s true.😕 it should be normal to have no plastic (or Aluminium) in the supermarket and anywhere else! I would understand, if we use it for medical stuff.

Local growing got lost in the past decades, for my grandma it was totally normal when she were younger! We loose the touch with nature….💚

I‘m with #[3] on this subject. And yes, it‘s tricky, especially because climate change has been put onto the banner of too many political organisations.

Whilst I support reducing dependence on fossil fuels, my feeling is that this „everything or nothing“ approach to capping CO2 emissions falls short in many ways. The question is, IMHO, which incentives exist for whom to do what? And from which changes the planetary ecosystem would profit most?

From what I see, transitioning to a sustainable (ideally local) agriculture and eating & living healthily would go a long way.

Any contrarian thoughts? 🙏🏼

I agree. But I'm also concerned about the CO2 level. That's no problem for our earth, but a problem for humans.

As you say it's been known about for a long time.

Species extinction? Of many other species for sure, biodiversity is under serious threat. Unlikely that there is a threat to the human species completely, although there may well be mass famine, drought, war etc caused by our food and water supplies dwindling. Which will affect many in first world countries although they don't want to admit it yet. Even if 9 in 10 humans die that's still quite a lot of humans remaining.

I changed my lifestyle years ago, I'm completely zero carbon except for the occasional rare outing on my motorcycle. My house is heated and cooled by heat pumps, my electricity supply comes exclusively from renewables and nuclear. I don't use jet airlines at all, the vast majority of my transport is by EV, electric train, and sailboat. I don't eat beef, which contributes an order of magnitude more towards methane emissions than any other meat, although I do eat fish and poultry which have little greenhouse gas effect.

For the moment I am still (obviously) on grid, but I am considering what it would take to go completely off grid. I have heard some positive stories about homesteading for women, but I think there are risks and dangers as well.

I’m sorry to bother, but you as a plant and nature lover don’t realize that CO2 is essential to the growth of plants and trees? Doesn’t that make you question the narrative? If you have another point of view please let me know as i’m always looking to learn 😊

Thank you for your reply!

So much co2 got stored in the ground for billions of years and humanity set it free into the air in a very short time, what do you think about that?:)

I think CO2 it’s not the problem because like i said without it our planet would be a desert, and if you want to capture it just plant more trees, on the other hand methane is the main problem as well as coal burning, we should transition from burning coal to nuclear energy, i just don’t think that electrifying cars makes much of difference, in fact the mining of the components is also very damaging for the planet and for the people in the mines.

I really appreciate your opinion and agree with you. But still would feel better when I did not have to drive my car so often. We take too much from this planet that it cant reproduce in the time we need it. It doesn’t make sense for me to drive for 30 minutes and use something that took billions of years to be created and it’s immediately released into the air, you know what I mean? And in the end you just drove this way because you forgot your keys or something for example.. :D I think trees don’t need all the co2 that we add more and more into the air.👀 it also just supports the heating besides other pollution.

Unfortunately there are so many trees that won’t survive the warmer climate, so we have to plant alooooot of new resistant trees! 🌳 also thinking about planting trees.

I really believe there is a way to live in balance with planet earth.

And yeah electric cars are a tricky topic too… the circumstances for the miners could get better with a fair money and we should equalize the destroyed nature! I’ve heard when you drive electric for 50.000km it’s more sustainable than a gasoline car!

I love to discuss about this topic, and I am always ready to learn too! : )

I agree with most of you just said, but it’s not fair that we western countries already developed because of the use of fossil fuels, are now trying to avoid that the others countries develop themselves by using those fuels. It’s a very difficult subject to discuss because there are lots of trade offs. My hope is that AI advances very much and in the right direction so that in the future we as humans won’t need to pollute this much.

Can you explain closer what you mean and why it’s unfair?

Don’t really get it 🙈

Ok so basically western developed countries passed the last 200 years digging fossil fuels wich made possible for them to develop to these current levels, because as you should know human florishing is tightly connected to the use of these hidrocarbonets, and now we are trying to transition to renewable energy sources only wich if you ask me is a terrible mistake because the electrical grid won’t be able to provide 24hrs electricity, and you are trying to impose that idea to the entire world, well if african countries and many latin american and some asian countries even using fossil fuels aren’t able to have a robust electrical grid that provides them 24hrs electricity, how can these poorer countries evolve and grow with a grid that relies exclusively on renewable energy?

Ah now I get it!

If humanity would work together instead of each country acting selfishly… we could make better progress. But we cannot cling to old habits and must evolve. Using renewable energy is an essential component of this change. Hopefully, western countries, which already have the capability, can lead the way and offer support to poorer countries.

Like bitcoin can’t be our all currency overnight, 100% renewable energy/electricity can’t be developed overnight!

But with the climate problem it’s already too late… climate will heat up already, biodiversity is already fucked up and that means problems with producing food. It’s already time to figure out how to live in the future with those circumstances, the heat and it’s upcoming problems will happen, we cannot change that fast, sadly. But we can still do our best to not make it even more harmful!

Do you speak German? Because I just watched a very interesting speech of a German biologist, that might be interesting for you!

Unfortunately i don’t speak german 😬 I’m from Portugal and i can only speak english as a foreign language.

Let me ask you? How did you fell on Bitcoin rabbithole? And does the mining #Bitcoin consuming lot’s of energy bother’s you?

I wish more people could watch his speech😢

People that think, bitcoin is the total energy killer just do not understand why bitcoin is necessary. I think the system we have now is the actual & very inefficient energy killer tho!

A future with using electricity is unavoidable. As the future world currency, we should sacrifice the energy that flows into bitcoin to have a secure and stable currency. We just have to figure out how to use renewable energy for all of us! Infrastructure just needs to be build.

I’ve also learned, much of mining happens where the energy is in excess. Efficient.🙏🏼

I was always searching for answers to save the world and for more balance, everything seemed so pointless. My boyfriend, #[3] is into bitcoin for soooo long now, when I met him, he totally convinced me of bitcoin the more questions I’ve asked! So greatfull!!! Hes carrying so much knowledge when it comes to bitcoin!

Once you go down the Bitcoin rabbithole you just can’t unsee that the fiat money is broken, i find intriguing that most people don’t see it.

I totally agree with you, we should transition to renewable energy but for now the technology that is cleaner is nuclear and we should encourage it not ditching it like the german government and now they are burning coal 😕

Yup, you’re right, most people don’t see it.

I hope nuclear energy is also 100% renewable one day! It’s difficult, because today it’s producing also lots of nuclear trash, that’s still be there in a long long time.

Idk what the hell germany is even doing all the time…. We have a political party called “the greens” but their concept is not very thought-out. 🫠 currently we have 3 political parties that govern in a coalition(one are the greens). With 3 different opinions, and they can’t come to an agreement together, it’s confusing, German politics!😅😅🔫

All hopes on bitcoin & never stop to educate people about the “truth” and living a balanced life with earth.💚

Politics are the same everywhere 😂 maybe except in El Salvador.

I encourage you and your boyfriend to read or research a book by Alex Epstein it’s called Fossil Future, and he gives a different view on fossil fuels just for you guys question or have a different perspective of the global narrative around this topic. As for nuclear waste there are already nuclear reactors that can reuse the waste of almost depleted uranium wich by the it doesn’t take that long to decay to very normal values.

Could be worse with politics!

Thank you for the recommendation, will take a look at it!😊

I knew they did research about reuse the nuclear waste, did not know it’s already like that, that’s cool. Do you know how long it takes now to break down?

Makes so much fun discussing with you, really! Thank you for these new perspectives and very nice to meet you!🫱🏻‍🫲🏼💜

When you have the time please listen to this podcast episode 🙂 skip to the part where they introduce the guest and go from there.

I think it’s important to discuss these matters in civilized way wich as been impossible in twitter, I’m very happy to meet you too it’s always good to find nice people that are open to revisit their ideas that’s the only way to make the world a better place.

Keep in mind that i’m not saying that i’m right, i’m just offering a different perspective 😊

Thanks a lot for this one too!🤗

Don’t worry, always searching for sense and adjust my opinion in a mindful way!

Never really used twitter, I found the way of communicating confusing haha

Finally with Nostr on Damus I discovered this beautiful way of connecting with people!

Hope this place stays this kind & civilized! 🙏🏼💜 I think you will enjoy it here!

Thanks for the sats 🙏🏻

Yes for now nostr only has great people let’s hope it stays this way 🤞
