The ColdCard boneyard. Three Mk1s and a Mk2. What they don't tell you about hardware wallets is that eventually the secure elements become obsolete, and you either replace them or git gud. Getting an amnesic device (SeedSigner, Jade) that you can cold start from a SeedQR is the way to go.

What do you mean when you say the secure element becomes obsolete?

No secure element outlasts human autism. Hackers gonna hack. New attack vectors will be discovered.

Why do u think ColdCard is at v4

Security has always been an arms race

It makes sense when you say himan autism and hackers gonna hack. Definitely agree w that. But has the secure element in either the mk1 or mk2 become any less secure since each was released? Not trying to be confrontational, looking to learn.

I mean, there's nothing that inherently degrades the security of the hardware. It is just that it takes people an amount of time to find flaws in the design.

Yeah makes total sense. No security model is entirely secure and is only a deterrent. With infinite time and effort all security can be broken.
