I guess because, aside from the sci-fi elements, it isn't that uncommon an experience among people whom are a bit complicated. I was going to say 'a bit mental' rather than 'a bit complicated' but they're pretty much the same and technically one is less offensive or stigmatising. I don't see why. Everyone is a bit complicated at points in their life, or all the time, and it's a shame when people are mental about it. The alternative is uncomplicated. Which sounds like something said in a conversation between two old ladies at a bus stop talking about Philipa's fiancée whom is basically solid but philosophically aligned with an advertisement for cordless power tools.)
