It’s ironic that the public has in recent years become so exposed to the term “gaslighting” when it comes to personal relationships, but remains so unable to recognize the phenomenon when it’s their own government doing it to them

Holy shit this was my conversation last night that ended with me wanting to rip my hair out because of how incapable they were of connecting the government doesn’t love you to the genocides of the 20th century

I guess it’s no different than convincing a battered wife that she’s in an exploitative, abusive relationship. She can’t see how bad it is unless she can see a better alternative.
