Ah man this movie is so great. First opening scene really gets you into it.
Also, it's made in a way that literally touches on reality (think Gaza, Apartheid, Migrants) and deals with it head on.
Also, for 2009 this film's animation is light years ahead.

apparently what made this successful was the failure of the Halo movie at the time. They were able to use some high quality props and material which helped really create a quality film for a fraction of a hollywood production
Was the Halo movie that Peter Jackson was gonna produce and Blomkamp direct? I remember that he gave him budget for a movie because he felt bad and said to do whatever he wants
yeah basically, if you see Peter Jackson's name comes up first and props look very Halo-ish - look at the guns for instance. But that's a small part of the bigger project tbh, the movie is really good overall
