always broken but which client is you using
I am using several clients:
amethyst, primal
snort, strudel, primal
And by broken do you mean they cannot show followers or show different numbers
different numbers with a 30-40% delta

Follower counts are a lie, it's not possible to get follower counts on a decentralized protocol.
Where is the problem? Is it s performance/accuracy trade-off to calculate them or something more deeply rooted in the decentralized nature which renders it really impossible?
