This is actually quite weird.

A small spanish goes a long way in many Latin American country. And I mean really not too much.

Even in Brazil, where they speak portugues. Sometimes the middle ground is spanish, as they dont speak english. (But fortunately in many places they do...)

So start that duolingo or babel before you go. The more basic stuff you understand, the better off you will get. Of course going on a spanish tour would still be hard, but it will help a lot.

Actually we learned in Brazil, that we know a lot of spanish compared to nothing in portugues, and this is really, really feelable.

you got that right! Our fifth time in mexico. Been here since Nov (Leaving in 2 days) and knowing some basic words really helps..especially in the small towns we visit! One day I will be fluent enough where I don't feel like I missed out on some great conversations 😌

If you really speak spanish, that opens up a whole different world. You can really get to know the culture, because in many places, locals are glad to chat and share.
