I've been seeing a lot of new bots/fake accounts

The only fix possible is to have reliable “safety nets” for trustworthy humans only.

This is done NOT by algos alone, but with human intervention. Friends trusting friends and sharing nostr with friends.

More of this is what keeps nostr safe.
